State authorities to manage privately-run Madrassa: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: While the Assam authorities has determined to shut down state run Madrassa from November onwards, the federal government additionally plans to herald regulation for privately run Madrassa whereby the establishments has to show science and maths apart from complying with constitutional mandates like Right to schooling.

Assam schooling minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday informed media individuals, “We have decided to shut down state run madrassas based on certain definite research. During survey it was found that most of the students studying their aspire to become doctor, engineers and professors and till class 9 or 10 they are in dark for they do not know this is not the medium through which they can fulfil their aspiration.”

He added, “We will disband the Madrassa board and these institutions will be converted to High schools. Privately set up Madrassa can run however there will some regulations like students have to be told why they are here, secondary they must be taught bit of science and maths, these Madrassa have to be registered with the state besides various constitutional mandate like Right to education has be followed.”

He stated that the sooner notification of treating Madrassa certificates and sophistication 10 cross from state board equal might be withdrawn. “When a general students finds that that Madrassa certificate is equivalent these not only creates panic but also results in frustration and anger. This is also injustice.”

He added that even Sanskrit Tols might be come underneath the Kumar Bhaskar Verma Sanskrit University and present tols will develop into centre for Indian tradition, nationalism.

Sarma stated there are round 610 state run Madrassa and there are 1000 academics in it. “The state government annually spends around Rs 260 Crore in running these Madrassas.”

The schooling minister added that state run Madrassa is the legacy of Muslim league underneath Syed Muhammad Saadulla, who was Prime minister of Assam in British India. “Post-independence subsequent congress authorities elevated the variety of the state run Madrassa.“

Meanwhile from November 2 on wards instructional establishments in Assam will open in staggered method following the COVID-19 protocols. However hostels will stay closed and authorities will make announcement concerning the opening of hostels later.
